Though Wayne was not without projects in between, some seven years were allowed to pass between the release of the fourth and fifth installments of the lattermost. An artist should be so lucky to sustain the kind of longevity that would allow for multi-volume phases the likes of Wayne’s Dedication, and Da Drought mixtapes, let alone the series that made him into a superstar, Tha Carter. The 36-year-old musician also discussed his track with Kendrick Lamar, working with Swizz Beatz, and his relationship with Cash Money Records co-founder Birdman.Maybe more than any other rapper in history, Lil Wayne’s output is defined by franchises. He said he recorded multiple tracks with Drake for Tha Carter V over the years but was unable to work out the logistics. “He has a song,” Wayne said. “It didn’t get cleared. Wayne revealed that it was a clearance issue that prevented the Canadian rapper from appearing on the record. Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V features many high-profile guests, including Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, and XXXTentacion, but one name missing from the project is Weezy’s longtime collaborator and labelmate, Drake. ![]()
